A woman living in a small village near Seoul, South Korea went to the mountains in order to get some fresh fall air. There, she noticed a Golden Retriever swimming in a nearby canal as she was walking along a lovely trail. She approached it to find out if it needed help or was just having some fun.
Upon seeing her, the dog grew afraid and hid in a sewer pipe. The dog resisted the woman’s calls to come out. He refused to reappear and remained hidden.
Concerned for the dog’s safety, the woman returned with a bowl of food the following morning. She was astonished to see two Golden Retrievers! One was male while the other one was female.
She attempted to get their trust by feeding them every day for a month, but she was still unable to approach them. The meals she offered were only consumed after she had left.
The kind-hearted woman took the time to find help for the dogs and eventually made contact with a local rescue group. She informed the rescuers of the dogs and led them to the location. She gave them all pertinent information regarding the dogs and supported them in creating a strategy to capture them.
To prevent the dogs from fleeing, the rescuers obstructed all possible entrances and exits. The dogs were then coaxed out of their hiding area and into a transport crate using food. Despite moments of chaos, the rescuers were able to securely get both dogs.
As she saw the dogs rescued, the woman wept. She understood it was the last time she would see them, but she was happy to know they were in good care.
Animal behaviorists placed the canines in foster homes and trained and rehabilitated them. Both of them overcame a tremendous dread of humans, but the female Golden Retriever needed frequent reassurance from her sibling. Since he was her source of strength, they had to remain together at all times. A generous family offered to adopt them both.
The Golden Retrievers left their foster home for their permanent home. They also started their new life with new names – Mango and Apple.
